Laser Tag looks pretty simple: grab a tagger, find some cover and start playing.
But anyone who has watched a group of kids play for the first time knows that the first few minutes can get a little chaotic. 😄
Some players immediately run straight into the action. Others find the best bunker and decide they’re never leaving it. And there’s usually at least one player who comes up with a “brilliant” idea for becoming impossible to tag.
That’s why going over a few simple rules before the first game makes such a big difference.

Stay in the Playing Area
Before the game starts, everyone should know where the playing area begins and ends.
Once the game gets exciting, it’s easy to forget the boundaries while chasing another player or looking for a better hiding spot. Staying inside the designated area keeps everyone together and makes the game easier to manage.
Laser Tag Is a No-Contact Game
There’s no need for pushing, grabbing or tackling.
The goal is to tag other players with your tagger — not physically stop them from moving. Finding good cover, communicating with teammates and choosing the right moment to move are much better strategies.
And usually much more effective. 😄
Watch Where You’re Going
Running around is part of the fun, but players still need to pay attention to what’s around them.
When several kids are moving between inflatable bunkers at the same time, it’s important to watch the ground and the other players.
Sometimes slowing down for a second is a much better strategy than running straight into the middle of everything.
Use the Bunkers for Cover
Inflatable bunkers make the game much more interesting because players can hide, move between positions and plan their next attack.
But the bunkers should stay where they are during the game. They’re there to hide behind — not to climb on, jump on or move around.
Don’t Cover the Sensor
This is one of those rules that kids sometimes discover very quickly. 😄
The sensor must stay uncovered during the game.
Putting a hand over the sensor might seem like a clever way to avoid getting tagged, but it gives one player an unfair advantage.
If everyone keeps their sensor exposed, everyone has the same chance to tag — and be tagged.
Don’t Hide the Tagger Behind Your Back
Here’s another strategy that might seem clever at first: hiding the tagger behind your body so other players can’t hit it.
Nope. 😄
Keep the tagger visible and in front of you while playing.
If you need protection, that’s what the bunkers are for. Find cover, change position and outsmart the other team instead.
The First Game Is Usually Just the Beginning
Something interesting happens after the first round.
Kids start figuring things out.
They discover which bunkers provide the best cover. They start communicating with their teammates. Some players become very defensive, while others are always looking for a way to sneak around the other team.
And suddenly, instead of everyone simply running around, there’s a strategy.
That’s when Laser Tag gets really fun.
A few simple rules keep the game fair, but there are still plenty of ways for kids to come up with their own tactics.
And after one game, you’ll usually hear the same question:
